Animal Welfare

Summum Animal Welfare

Animal welfare is a top priority to us. It is important to us that our collections are produced with respect for animals. That is why our partners and suppliers sign our Animal Welfare Policy, which sets out how animals must be treated and explains that the use of certain animal materials is not permitted.

For our collections, we use animal materials such as leather for products including coats, shoes and bags. The origin and production method is not always clear. Our goal for 2020 is to trace the origin of all leather goods and only purchase leather products manufactured under the right conditions, i.e. as by-products and according to the five freedoms relating to animal welfare. Furthermore, all leather products must comply with chemical audits that we carry out with support from our sector organisation Modint. We never use angora or products that originate from exotic or endangered animals We do not use fur, and in 2016 we signed the Bontvrij Verklaring (‘Fur-free Declaration’) drawn up by the Dutch foundation Bont voor Dieren. We are also a member of the Fur Free Retailer-programma, an international initiative of the Fur Free Alliance, a coalition of over 40 top animal and environmental conservation organisations across the world. We also use down as little as possible, and when we do use it, we only use down with the RDS-label.
